Video Vault's VSO Burning Module Checklist
The VSO DVD Burning Module is the 3rd party software that Video Vault uses to perform its burn functions.
Please follow all these guidelines. If all are applied and you still have a problem, email us and we will be glad to help you. 90% of all burn problems can be solved by following this advice.
1) Do you have the latest version of the concerned product? Be sure by downloading from the support page.
2) Do you have the latest firmware for your hardware (DVD writer)? If you are not sure, check the information on this page: http://www.cdrinfo.com or http://www.rpc1.org
If your burner is not listed there, check the manufacturer's web site.
3) Did you turn off any anti-virus, any video applications, and any other burning applications which might access the CD/DVD units at the same time? Note 1: A lot of users reported problems with Norton AntiVirus on some configurations. If you have MMC errors etc., please disable the anti-virus software during the writing process. Note 2: A lot of users reported problems with VIA and nVidia low level display drivers (i.e. IDE drivers). Sometimes Microsoft certified drivers work better, sometimes a new version of the drivers from VIA/nVidia can help.
4) Are you using appropriate media for your operation? (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM, CDR, CDRW) Each format is different and can have a different behavior depending on your system. The key to a good backup is to use good media. Check if the media you are using is highly compatible with your hardware. Check this link (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters) to see what users think about the hardware and media you are using. If you suddenly have problems with MMC errors, please try various media before contacting us. Also don't believe the marketing about the speed. The slower the writing speed (4x or 8x for CD), the better the backup.
You can also download VSO Inspector to check the capabilities of your writer. You can check if the drive supports the format (+ or -) of media you are using but also check the read errors on the media you just burnt.
5) Did you check the surface of the media? It is an obvious, but widespread mistake. Check if the DVD media to read and/or write is clean, scratch-less, not too transparent or damaged. The quality of the surface can greatly influence the overall backup process.
6) Did you let the system work quietly during the process? If you don't have problems, you can interact with your computer of course, but if you have any faulty behavior, please do not use your system during a read/write operation, especially when the application is extracting topology information!
7) Try a different unit. Even if you have a reader and a writer, the backup quality highly depends on the hardware. There are no rules about which is the best to use, you will have to try for yourself. If you have a playback problem, try to use your writer for reading first. Some units can be very slow compared to others. The best manufacturers based on our experience are Plextor, Lite-on (writers), LG (recent units), and Sony (DVD writers). The most problematic drives are Toshiba, old LG, Pioneer, TDK, and MSI. Of course it doesn't mean it will not work if you are using an unlisted manufacturer or model, it just means we don't know all the models and it depends on your own use of our products.
8) Check your Burner model and media on the VSO database. Any hardware/blank media combination with a success rate of less than .90 (90%) should not be used.
9) If nothing helps, please do a simple test. Select all files on the source DVD, copy and paste them to your hard drive, if you have an error during the process, it means your system is unstable or your optical unit is unable to read this DVD for some reason... In this case, it's normal that the software is unable to work correctly.
If you checked these 9 points and you still have a problem, please contact us. In preparation, in the "Options" dialog there is an option to turn on enhanced DVD burner logging ([X] Debug: Enable DVD Burner Logging). Check this box. If possible, use rewritable media so as not to waste another blank DVD and recreate your burning problem. Then please send the log file(s) as an email attachment after recreating the problem. (In the installation folder, generally C:\Program Files\Bamboo Technology\Video Vault\VideoVaultLog.html and Burnerlog.txt) You can automatically do this by clicking on "?" in the upper right and then "Report Bug" and filling out the information. Please confirm that you have tried all these steps at that time so we don't repeat ourselves.
